Ansdell travelled the short distance to Commonedge, trying to improve on the last two results
Ansdell took on Automeaden in the first ever meeting between the two sides on a sun drenched Commonedge.
Ansdell in recent weekes have stuggled for form and today had 7 players missing from the previous week, a bare 12 turned up to take on an Automeaden side who hhad just last week won and were brimming in confidence.
Jones, with Per on the touchline picked the following team from his bare bones squad,
Jones in goal, Worrall, O'Keeffe, Wilkes, Hulme at the back, a midfirld 4 of Campo,Oldham,Docherty,Wilkinson with Garth and Horton up front.
Sub Bryne
The game started with Ansdell playing with the wind, and on the ascendancy, going forward at every opportunity. Docherty and Wilkinson were putting in some great challenges which was unsettling the Automeaden players.
Thing always dont go to plan, and when Ansdell were caught attacking a long ball on the break found the nippy forward who ran through to score, giving Automeaden an unexpected lead.
This prompted Ansdell into action, some good work by Oldham and Garth found Horton in the box who volleyed home for the equaliser, only to have the flag dubiously go up.
Wilkes then hit over following a Campo corner when he went for 2 points instead of 1 goal....
Then on 38 mins, good work from Doc found Garth who laid on for Oldham to score his 1st for the club, a rasping left foot half volley form the edge of the box. 1-1
There was still time for the hard working Garth to again go close in the closing stages.
HT 1-1
The second half started well, Ansdell continuing to press, playing some impressive football at times.
On 55 mins Ansdell took the deserved lead, a through ball from O'Keeffe beat the 2 centre halves, only to see the keeper dive over the ball, for a greatful Garth to tap in from two yards 2-1 Ansdell.
As Ansdell continued to press, Garth went close again, a ball from Olhham found him clear on goal, but the leading scorer blazed over.
Automeaden then had a couple of chances to equalise, only to see Jones equal to to the task.
On 75 mins totally against the run of play a long throw in from the right eluded everyone and the flicked on ball found the unmarked forward to head home 2-2
Automeaden were obviously spurred on by this, by the cheers that went around the pitch, only for it to be short lived, when 5 minutes later Hulme found Garth who turned on a sixpence and cooly slotted home the winner 3-2
FT 3-2
Summary
A very good team performance by all involved, the missing players will find it hard to get back next week after this performance
MoM
MoM could have come from Docherty,Oldham, Garth,O'Keefe, but this week goes to Keith Hulme, some great last ditch takles and much improved disribution, not to mention a great pass to set up Garth for the winner, which just shows that training is working!
